There are two clubs in the Championship right now who look genuinely lost, and a 1-1 draw between them at the Racecourse Ground did absolutely nothing to clear the fog.
Wrexham still cannot win at home. Burnley still cannot win, full stop. Somewhere in south Wales on a Monday evening, a football match produced one decent goal, one deflected effort, and a whole lot of anxiety in the stands. Neither side deserves sympathy. Both need a result fast.
A Game That Had No Business Being This Tight
Wrexham should have been ahead inside four minutes. Callum Doyle got his head on Issa Kaboré's cross, Max Cleworth put it back into the area, and Doyle headed it directly at keeper Max Weiss. No excuses for that. Then in the 18th minute, Weiss made a better save to deny another close-range Moore header. The chances were there. Wrexham just could not take them.
Burnley, for most of the first half, were barely in it, but Leeds loanee Largie Ramazani was their sharpest player and made them count when it mattered. On 26 minutes he threaded a perfect ball through for Zeki Amdouni, who finished first time. The Swiss forward nearly doubled it moments later when his long-range strike deflected off Cleworth and forced Anthony Patterson into a save. Two chances, one goal, and suddenly Burnley were winning a game they had no right to be winning.
Wrexham went in at half-time to boos. Phil Parkinson responded by introducing Callum O'Hare for his home debut alongside Oli Rathbone, and the team that came out in the second half at least had some urgency about them.
The equaliser on 55 minutes was genuinely good. Kaboré, who had been lively all night, put in a superb cross and Jacques Ekomié, his wing-back partner who joined from Angers this summer for £7 million, met it with a powerful header. His second goal for the club. Credit where it is due.
After that, Wrexham had the momentum but not the quality to finish it off. O'Hare headed wide. Kaboré nicked the ball off Weiss but could not find anyone with his cross. O'Hare flashed another shot wide after a defensive mix-up. And then, at the other end, Ekomié had to block Oliver Sonne's shot on the line in the 73rd minute to prevent a Burnley winner that would have felt deeply unfair.
The State of Both Clubs

The 39-year-old was suspended for this match after picking up yellow cards during his time with Italian side Cremonese, so he watched from the stands while his new teammates dropped yet more points. Burnley have one league win since October. The Vardy signing is either a masterstroke or a desperate punt, and right now nothing at that club suggests masterstroke.
For Wrexham, the window brought Ekomié and Kaboré as wing-backs on the same day, and both contributed to the goal. But Zian Flemming, last season's top scorer, was sold to Ipswich on deadline day, and the team is visibly missing someone who can take a game by the scruff of its neck.
A point each. Seven points for Wrexham, three for Burnley. Neither side is going anywhere near the top of this division playing like this, and the Championship has zero patience for clubs coasting on reputation.
