Three songs in the top 10, a record-tying 19 weeks at number one, and Drake showing up at your Arkansas gig like a lost tourist. Ella Langley is having a year.
"Choosin' Texas" dropped in October 2025 and has absolutely refused to leave. It first hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in February, got knocked off, came back, got knocked off again, and kept coming back — like a boomerang with a broken heart. This week it sits at number one for its 19th week, putting Langley level with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus's "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" for the longest-running number one in Hot 100 history among songs that aren't about wanting someone home for Christmas.
The Club She's Just Joined
The record Langley has now tied has a proper bit of history to it. "Old Town Road" smashed a 16-week record that had stood since Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day." Shaboozey then matched that 19-week total in 2024. Now "Choosin' Texas" has done the same. Three songs, all broadly country-ish, all sitting on the same mountaintop.
The only thing above them is Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" — which, thanks to a Billboard rule change, first reached number one in 2019 and has now accumulated 22 weeks at the top across its December runs. That record will almost certainly keep growing every Christmas unless Billboard shifts the goalposts again. It is, effectively, untouchable by mortals.
But the non-Christmas record? That looks like it's Langley's to take. With the top of the Hot 100 described as extremely stagnant right now and very little movement in the top 10, she's well-placed to go to 20 weeks next week and break the tie outright. Worth watching — especially if you care about where [Stella Lefty's "Boston"](/getohedz/music/stella-lefty-explains-why-noah-kahan-got-retroactive-writing-credit) fits into all this, given it moved up to a new peak of number two this week, sitting just behind Langley.
Three Songs Deep
What makes this even more ridiculous is that Langley isn't a one-song story right now. She's got her Morgan Wallen duet "I Can't Love You Anymore" at number six, and "Be Her" at number ten. Three songs in the top 10 simultaneously — that's not a chart run, that's a takeover.
Meanwhile, the week's highest new entry is KATSEYE's "Hootie Frutti" debuting at 31, which tells you everything about how locked-up the upper reaches of the chart currently are. Phoebe Bridgers has four songs on the Hot 100 off her new album Lost Weekend, but they're all near the foot of the chart.
Oh, and Doja Cat, when asked if she likes Ella Langley, responded: "I don't know what that is." Incredible.
Our Take
Ella Langley is three chart runs deep into the biggest story in American music right now, and most people over here still couldn't pick her out of a lineup. That's fine — records don't need our recognition to count. If "Choosin' Texas" goes to 20 weeks next week, she owns a piece of chart history that Lil Nas X and Shaboozey currently share. After that, only Mariah's Christmas monopoly stands between her and the all-time record. We'll be watching.
