Teaching 14-Year-Olds AI and Manufacturing Is Exactly What This Country Needed to Do

The Problem With Waiting Until It's Too Late
For too long, vocational training has been treated as the plan B. Something you ended up doing, not something you chose. That attitude has done real damage. Young people in Birmingham, Sunderland, Coventry — places with serious manufacturing and tech industries on their doorstep — were sitting in classrooms studying subjects with no visible connection to the world outside the gates.
By the time most of them were offered anything technical, they were 16. Decision already made. Momentum already gone. Two years is a long time when you're trying to figure out who you are and what you're for.
